Our Project

The idea to build our own little house started to grow quite a while ago. After the extremely hot summer of 2019 we finally and officially decided to be out of the city by the summer of 2020 and enjoy a cool summer breeze in the Jura. And even though we both (one a little more and one a little less) enjoy so many aspects of the city life, it seemed like the perfect time to start a new adventure and give our friends and family a place to stay when it gets hot again 😉

And from then on sketches, drafts and interior design plans started to form – first mostly in our heads and during talks on hikes or before going to sleep. And gradually it started to exist on paper, on sketch-up, taped on the floor and be shared with others.

Why a Tiny House?

While living in a big beautiful apartment in Basel we noticed, how little of the space we actually use on a regular basis. Somehow some of the spaces were more used for the sake of having them used and not giving them a feeling of neglect. Don’t get us wrong: it is also a luxury that we appreciated many times. But it started to feel like a luxury that we would rather trade for some more space outside of our big apartment: open fields, uninterrupted starry skies, space to grow our own vegetables. And most of all, space to grow closer with nature.

So maybe the first motivation was less to move into a tinier space, but more looking for a way to get that other kind of space. The idea of building our own home became more and more the main subject of our daydreams; many Youtube videos where watched and Pinterest was sifted through for inspiration and tutorials.

And over time we started to notice the little things that we may have not really noticed before, that seemed to get easier in a Tiny House. Starting with cleaning, but also being aware of what you actually own (and realizing if and why you need it). Decluttering became a fun project on sunday afternoons, even with a move being still some time away. Much like with the space, we started to see that we actually own a lot of things that we don’t need. The perspective of gradually committing to a more “mindful” lifestyle and finding your very own definition of what that means grew a lot in us.

In the end what often puts a smile on our face is the idea of going to bed for the first time in our Tiny House and being able to say: We built this and we built it the way it fits our personalities and ideals.

Where are we moving to?

Our Timetable

We plan to move into our home by July or August this year (yes, that is very soon!) and start building as soon as possible. We luckily have the option of temporarily moving into another building and finish our build from there.

What is our plan of action?
